A Writer at War

The design of this project involved a lot of collaboration with the Picture Research team, who sourced striking photography throughout. To make the images really connect with the text and create a dynamic read, they are fully integrated, for example skies fading away into the text, to create an exciting read.

The text itself is very complex, with large extracts of eye-witness accounts. The initial design idea was to use two typefaces to clearly differentiate the prose, however in practice it became difficult to read. As the content of the book documents Russian history, I believed it was important to reflect Russian design and typography. The final design is set in Abril Text, with Grotesque display.
